July 01, 2015

HTC is in talks with local contract manufacturer Global Networks Device to make value line and mid-range smartphones in India, reported India's Economic Times on June 30. Global Networks Device, who has produced smartphones for the Indian smartphone maker Zen Mobile and runs a mobile phone retail chain, has commenced trial productions for HTC handsets and plans to launch commercial production in mid-July. HTC smartphones made in India will be the Desire series, priced between 10,000 INR and 25,000 INR (US$157 to US$393; US$1=63.6 INR), initially for the Indian market and eventually for Africa and the Middle East. HTC will be the second global smartphone brand to make mobile phones in India, after Korean vendor Samsung Electronics.
